This past spring I did a screen printing demo at the local community market here in Starkville. As I pulled up in Big Mama (my '82 VW camper van), I noticed some lovely ladies set up across from the demo station.
After some serious ooh'ing and ahh'ing over each other's work, we began to talk collaboration.
Sweet Gum Springs Apothecary began about the same time I started Wanderite, and is the only apothecary in the entire Southeast! These ladies have amazing life adventures and stories to tell, so I was naturally thrilled to start working with them on creative design work for their business. Not only that, they have a solid understanding of plant medicine, and their teas, tonics, incense and salves are f*cking ace.
I eagerly began working on an illustration of three of Sweet Gum's 'power plants' - hawthorn, passionflower and borage. This is what happened:
I had a total blast drawing the 'power trio' for them, and was extremely touched to have the girls receive it so enthusiastically. Their second batch of the shirts accompanied them to the Mahabhuta Yoga Festival and nearly sold out completely!
Currently, I am in the process of designing label packaging for Sweet Gum's entire line, as well as their newly released CSA offerings. Details on that coming very, very soon.
You can also find their goods locally in Starkville at the Starkville Community Market, Midweek Market on Main St., and The Old House on Jackson / Hwy 182.
